    Unable to edit place names

    Hi,

This morning 30 Jan '24 I have noticed a problem.

When I enter details for a person on Family Tree, I am now unable to change a place name from the standard versions.

Eg I enter Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, England, to get the standard version. I then used to be able to add District into the place name to give Scunthorpe District, Lincolnshire, England to designate the registration ditrict.

Prior to today I was able to do so without a problem, but now I am unable to do so.

I have tried clearing cookies & data in my browser, and using a different browser.

Has anyone else encountered the same problem?

    Thanks

    John

      Yes and no.

If I enter a place and then want to add the (non-standardised) text "District", there used to be two ways of doing it.

If I type the entry, then add "District" and then I select the option in red over the top of the drop-down list, it works.

However, I used to be able to type the entry, add "District" and then click outside the dropdown and red text to make it stick - i.e. not on the drop-down, not on the red. That seems to be problematic. Sometimes (usually, in fact) it doesn't release the Save button until I do something like stick a space in the text box. And even when I do get the Save button to appear, then after I've Saved it - it hasn't saved it at all but reverts to the previous value.

I don't think I just ran into any issues by clicking on the red text. But clicking outside now usually fails (not sure it always failed) whereas it used to work.

I'm still able to select the standard place "Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, England" then I click just before the comma after Scunthorpe and type in " District" with no problem. It looks like this:

The display place is Scunthorpe District, Lincolnshire, England, and the standardized place is Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, England. For me, it worked as I expected.

      Thanks for your replies.

I used to click outside the box to confirm my amendment, but that does not seem to work now.

Selecting the 'red' option now seems to work OK.
