    Record suddenly unavailable

    diegofaria2525

    January 18, 2024 edited September 30, 2024 in Search

I have visited the following record for months, until last Saturday it suddenly became unavailable. This is the direct link (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QHJ-4Q77-758S) and below a picture of the error message.

    image.png

Said record could be found at the Images section and has never been subject to any restriction. By the way similar records from the same source are still available (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QHK-2Q7M-DK7K).

It certainly has nothing to do with going to a FHC, since the error message is different from the one we get when it's actually necessary to go to a FHC (see below).

    image.png

What might be the issue here?

Do you by any chance happen to remember the film and image number of the missing image? Is it the same film as the working link (108441669), just a later or earlier page?

Given the absence of the Images section's parts of the URL in both of the links you posted, I'm wondering if the broken link has been damaged by an incomplete copy-and-paste. I played around a little with replacing S with 5 and such, but no luck.

(I also played around with replacing the distinctive part of the URL in the Images viewer instead of the Catalog's, but I realized belatedly that I don't have enough information to do that: the Images viewer's URL has extra stuff at the end.)

There is a known issue with some record images being restricted in error. Some of the reports have led to a correction.

Here are the corrected links https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QHJ-4Q77-758S cannot be seen and https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QHK-2Q7M-DK7K is Film 108441669, Image 1073 of 1673. (i have no idea why your links did not work.)

I could not find #1088441669 in the Catalog but can see it in Images. These appear to be probate records from Rio Pomba, Minas Gerais, Brazil. is this correct @diegofaria2525?

      Hi folks,

As of today records we've been researching are suddenly unavailable. This is the response from familysearch. I'm confused because I can't seem to find any special account types and besides, we've been able to review these records for months.

      signal-2024-01-18-11-57-15-384.png

Here is a link to a record we no longer have access to. One of dozens. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:6J48-VQ6T

      Any ideas?

      Thank you,

      Andrew

Yes, it is. Both records are contained within the Rio Pomba judicial archive.

I think my links didn't work because they are inside parenthesis.

The record was located in this Image Group Number (DGS): 108452533.

I know that because that's where I found it before I had a direct link - by the way I got the direct link from the Sources tab for this person: https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/sources/M6GV-XPM

In that group of images other records can still be found, but the one I'm looking for in particular disappeared.

The same thing is happening for me for https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/1503045

The Ukraine, Kyiv Orthodox Consistory Church Book Duplicates, 1734-1930. Indexes are dissapearing for the past 2 days, now most of them are unavailable, but 2 days ago it was all normal. What is going on?!

Just try to click on any of the links I've previously exported here on my Google Doc https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12rhFMfnQeaza4U4R89pdrzYtrG-tAO6o5I3pPE-de_k/edit?usp=sharing

And now try to click through the categories here, there are no indexations anymore ! https://www.familysearch.org/search/image/index?owc=XGVN-BZ9%3A1588783411%3Fcc%3D1503045

If I click on the earlier saved links, the image (attached) says that the record is not accessible anymore.

      image.png

For example, if I go to an individual church and try to scroll for hours through the dates and names, I might stumble on some of the ones I've exported. So they're all there, but they are not searchable anymore. What is going on? The owners of the images, the Central State Historical Archives of Ukraine in Kyiv know nothing about this (they haven't changed the agreement). Two days the unsearchable % of those born in Kyiv in 1905-1906 was 0. Yesterday it was around 25-35% and today it is almost all of them. Also the disappearance of the records were extremely random by location, date etc. I am hoping this is a technical issue that is reversible? I need this because I've been doing my research using large batches of exported records from FS, would be great to just bring it back as it was! Making tens of thousands of indexed values disappear is a massive setback!

For some reason, some of the pages of image group 108452533 have acquired padlocks in the Images viewer (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QHJ-4Q77-75H1?view=explore&groupId=M98Q-MS8). (It affects the first 33 pages, and another group of 50-odd pages in the middle.)

      image.png

Unfortunately, the image group is too new to appear in the Catalog, and the Images section's cataloging data is, as usual, woefully inadequate. I cannot tell what years are on the locked images (or on the unlocked ones, for that matter), so I cannot guess a reason for their restriction, nor why the access changed. Given the (few) dates that the Images cataloging data is willing to cough up, it shouldn't be a privacy issue, as all of the records on this film appear to be over a century old, and the page you're looking for is for someone who died 109 years ago.

Perhaps you can reach someone who can actually look into this problem by using the Feedback tab at the side of the Images viewer. I suggest you include Maria Brasilina's PID as well as the URL of the image that you can no longer access. Also include your email, so they can reach you with a reply (if any).

      ---

On the topic of URLs in this Community software: as you can see above, parentheses don't impede their function. I think what happened in your post is that you used the link button that appears when you highlight text, and you partially deleted the link that this associates with the highlighted characters.

      image.png image.png image.png

Thus, while the text is all there, and the system highlights all of it in blue, clicking it tries to take you to an incomplete URL.

I've just spoken to the admin of the Ukrainian group for FamilySearch on fb, and he claims that this happens "once in a while" (I haven't experienced this in the past 1.5 years though). And he says that everything will be back to normal. No real estimate on when, but he said usually 1to 1.5 weeks or so. So I think everything will be fine then! At least I hope so

Here try to click on any of these people I exported prior to this indexation blackout https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12rhFMfnQeaza4U4R89pdrzYtrG-tAO6o5I3pPE-de_k/edit?usp=sharing

Here's an example of a film within the Ukrainian Kyiv collection: all indexes are missing, but scans are still there. I've raised this issue in another post.

      https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CS9B-77B6-7?wc=XRTJ-K68%3A1588783411%2C66438401%2C69672101%2C1598162592&cc=1503045

If I was to list every film number to every Image Group this happened to, it would be crazy. It just happened to 80-90% of the images to this collection here https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/1503045 (over 2 million images)

Hi, in addition to my comment – I had a post dedicated to this problem regarding Ukrainian records, with almost all indexed records going missing within 2 days? Why was my post removed without warning? It was here https://community.familysearch.org/en/discussion/comment/540387#Comment_54038

Titled as "[FamilySearch Community] BraydenGraves answered your question: Indexes vanishing for Kyiv Church Book Duplicates, 1734-1930 for the past 2 days? Can FS undo this?"

@Bogdan75 Often multiple threads on the same subject are combined. I believe your post about the Kyiv Church Book Duplicates was merged into this thread.

My bad! So are we going to get a reply? Rumor has it there's a massive technical issue on the website after the big structural changes from 2 weeks ago. But we haven't heard anything from FS themselves, and Ukrainian researchers are going nuts right now as all of the index is missing now. It seems as if there's a deliberate silence being held on this matter?

@Bogdan75 Áine is correct that your discussion and another were merged here.

I am totally guessing so this is NOT official but I understand there is a lot of work being done to the catalog. I think we are seeing glitches as things are being worked on. I am trying to get an official response. Thanks for your patience.

Hi all. Please see this comment made by a Community Manager about reporting issues. I have been told that using the Feedback tab is the best way to report these so that they can be addressed by the right people.

Update from my side: well, 11 days in and no reaction or improvement unfortunately. From what those with connections to FS tell me from the Ukrainian FS community is that something similar happened at some point after restructuring (index completely or almost completely disappearing). They estimated 1-3 weeks, but not sure how reliable this estimate is!
