Where to report error in Location field in 1870 Census
I discovered an error in the listing of the 1870 Census of Chattahoochee county, Georgia. It is erroneously listed as "Georgia Center, Georgia, Franklin, Vermont, United States".
I found the error on two different families in family tree.
Annie Elizabeth Jones K85M-MLM and family. source; https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MCSL-GCV
David Turner GG5G-M79 and family. source. https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MCSL-GCY
If you open up the sources of each family in the 1870 census you can see the error on the indexed version. The images are correct, but no the location field.
Can someone send this up the line to whoever fixes this kind od errpr?I would appreciate being notified when it is fixed.
Thanks

@N Tychonievich placename standardization again, please and thanks. Record: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MCSL-GC8
@Pat Lowe When you see that a record has "Event Place (Original)" and some other unrelated placename, it's a placename standardization algorithm error. N Tychonievich has taken the lead on sending these for eventual correction.

This was not a standardization problem. It is an error picking the wrong place off a standard list.
should be Chattahoochee, Georgia,United States (county)
NOT Georgia Center, Georgia, Franklin, Vermont, United States

an error picking the wrong place off a standard list.
is exactly what the placename standardization problem is.

@Pat Lowe, Áine meant _auto_standardization. The error was made by an automated process that's supposed to associate a map point in the places database with the text field in the index. The millions of errors that the process made and makes have unfortunately corrupted FS's indexed records database to the point where I no longer use it for localization at all, as it is not functional for it, but even more unfortunately, FS continues to expect to fix all of those errors piecemeal, one report (like yours) at a time.

What is an Algorithm?
An algorithm is a set of commands that must be followed for a computer to perform calculations or other problem-solving operations. According to its formal definition, an algorithm is a finite set of instructions carried out in a specific order to perform a particular task.

Just so you know. I expect that this same error covers the whole Chatthoochee county 1870 census.

The problem impacts a large percentage of EVERY record set now on FamilySearch and will continue to do so, as new record sets are added.

Can the specific recordset be corrected, or just that individual in familytree?

As I said, in my original comment
N Tychonievich has taken the lead on sending these for eventual correction.
I've done all I can do by telling you who is working on these and what caused the problem. We live in hope that this algorithm may eventually be modified or turned off.
I'm not staff, a mod, or even LDS.
You've done what you can do by reporting what you saw.
Any eventual correction will be to the record, not to the profile of the person.

@Pat Lowe Thank you for reporting the problem in standardizing Chattahoochee County, GA in the 1870 US Census. We have reported it to the group that can correct it for all impacted entries in the census index. Unfortunately, they have a large backlog of similar issues they are dealing with, so we cannot predict how long it will take for a correction to be in place.
