US—County Marriage Records, 1893–1993 [MQXL-1NT]

Today when I opened a batch from this project, there was a pop-up message with additional instructions about only indexing an entry if it has a male, a female, and a date.

And I see that the project instructions now say (they may have been updated since last time I opened a batch),

  • Index each line on the marriage register if it contains a name of a male, female, and a date.

This particular page has 11 male names on the left (column labeled "Name of Groom"), and 12 female names on the right (column labeled "Name of Bride"). The left-hand and right hand entries on a particualar line are unrelated. So should I index it as 23 records, each with one party and a date, or should I mark the batch "No Indexable Data"?

We were indexing these with the one name because the instructions said to, but they've just changed instructions to index them if they have a male, female, and date. So since these are not couples, I don't know if they want us to index them. I asked the question. Hopefully a moderator will get clarification.

I too saw that change in the project instructions. However, I'm continuing to index records which contain a male OR a female and a date at this point. I may be wrong, but if so, in this case, I am 'erring to the good". Because once we mark the records as "No, No Extractable Data", it says they are deleted. Since there IS good info on the documents, I think that would be a detriment to the project. If I'm wrong, somebody please clarify further. Thank you!

Just to clarify the No Extractable Data... any that are marked NED are looked at by Family Search to be sure that that document shouldn't be indexed, so they're not deleted. (Thank goodness, huh?)
