My great grandmother was adopted. We have the records and documents indetifiying her biological parents. The family tree on FamilySearch was created with her adoptive parents. How do I correct the information?

Doesn't sound like there is anything to correct, just more information to add.

On her Family Tree detail page, scroll to the Family Members section and click on the link on the right side that says "Add Parent"

    and add her biological parents.

In Family Tree you can have as many sets of parents as needed to show the full history of someone's life.

@Gayle JC, you may have already done this, if not you should set the relationship type of your great-grandmother to each of her parents. Click on her edit pencil icon where she is shown as a child then click "+Add Relationship Type" then use the drop down and choose "Adoptive." Her other set of parents should be set to "Biological" when you add them.

I wonder if an additional issue here relates to the name in which she has been added to Family Tree?

If so, I think this illustrates the problem attached to deciding which name is best added in such circumstances.

I believe I would leave the name as it currently appears - i.e., the adoptive name that she was probably known by throughout a large period of her life. I would then add her birth name as an Alternate one (under Other Information).

How to treat the respective relationships with her biological and adoptive parents has been very well explained in earlier responses.

@Gayle JC And you also have the ability to set the preferred parents. See this help article 1129 dated 10 Aug 2023 explaining the implications.

Hi! Thank you for all the advice. The adoptive and biological relationships are already shown in there. What seems to be the problem is that the adoptive parents are marked as "preferred" and I cannot find a way to change that. See screen shot.

@Gayle JC, look at your screen shot you posted, see the words "SET PREFERRED?" It's above the words "Spouses and Children." Click on that on the details page then you can choose parents.
