Self-identified Metis - Red River Settlement, Manitoba, Canada

Hello, my genealogy makes clear my Metis ancestry linked to the Metis homeland, the Red River Settlement in Manitoba Canada. The Metis are a distinct nation specific to that homeland, with a few other areas in Canada being identified as well. What I'm having trouble finding are any documents showing where ancestors self-identfied as Metis. This is a requirement to receive citizenship into the Metis Nation of Alberta. I've done a lot of searching and have not had any luck. If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them. Thank you!

@Leanne Velda O'Hara there is a really good Canada Research Group be sure to post in that group too.

Also, under "Quick Links" you have access to a "Free Research Consultation" :)
