Looking for site with people that like to fix problems
I was led to a family of Kennedy's in the Chicago Ill area, and found a big mess. I have been two days sorting and gleaning data and created a Collab note of all I found and put it on the main man's page. I was wanting to find a spot in the Community area where folks that like to solve problems might take a look and see what more can be done to unravel this mess in FS. I have not reorganized FS for all of this. I was hoping a few more eyes on it all might help in doing this. Below is the paste of the note.
the combining of several families of Patrick Kennedy M6L5-RNG
September 7, 2023
Patrick Kennedy with Wife Mary Collins has been the 'catch all family' for several other Patrick Kennedy men and wives. Using census and other documents I am sorting and separating. It might not be until later that we finally learn how familysearch needs to re-enter these families.
Another possible answer is that there are actually two Patrick Kennedy and Mary Collins couples (which is not inconceivable) that have clouded the picture. The answer to this may be in the marriage records.
Patrick Kennedy marr to Mary Collins in Chicago on 29 Apr 1875
"Illinois, Cook County Marriages, 1871-1968", database, FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N769-QPX : 25 January 2023), Patrick Kennedy and Mary Collins, 1875.
AND
Patrick Kennedy b. 1862 Ireland marr to Mary Collins b. 1863 Ireland on 3 Feb 1884 Chicago .
Illinois, Cook County Marriages, 1871-1968", database, FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N7X5-95B : 25 January 2023), Patrick Kennedy and Mary Collins, 1884.
(Their are several other Patrick Kennedy men of this same time period marrying other named women with first name of Mary but different last names who could or not be in the mix)

1910 census Ohio St. Chicago
Patrick Kennedy b. 1862 Ire immig 1881

Katherine age 18 (GWDQ-FYK)
Mary age 16 (KLQY-JKG)
David age 13 (GWDQ_D29)
Nora age 12 (GWDQ-895)
By these two censuses, we learn the children of this Patrick and Mary Kennedy. Seems they only had these 5 children. the two censuses state 5/5 however, could Mary have misunderstood and counted only her live children as of those two dates? More information on each of these children has been entered on their separate ID's. I searched each of the children for doc's with mention of parents, located a FaG for Bridget Kennedy who married George Grady and her Bio names Patrick Kennedy and Mary Collins as her parents and the informant was Bridget's sister Nora Squires. I think this might be enough to clean up FS for this family. Is this the couple married in 1884?

(Part of the problem is that every child in the "now" list shows these parents as their parents...so finding other records is necessary.)
ANOTHER FAMILY
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MKCH-JQ2
1910 census Chicago, Langley Ave Ward 7
Patrick J Kennedy watchman, b. 1856 Can. Eng imm. 1873
Wife...he is widowed
Elizabeth j 27 b. 1883 Ill (94H3-27W)
Verona 19 b. 1891 Ill (is this Veronica Ann Kennedy b. 6 Jul 1889 or 1 Aug 1890, most records give these parents) ((G3RR-7TH)
Oliver 15 b. 1895 ILL (LY7Z-HTM)
Edward J 11 b. 1899 Ill (L1SK-73J)
John S 5 b. 1905 Ill (G3RB-MYH)
I have not yet located this family in 1900. but found more on the son Oliver, named Oliver Christopher Kennedy b. 4/12/1895 marr. Olga Schnback on 14 May 1919 AND on the 1930 census with 3 sons. He names his father as born Canada English. mother... Ireland. The Canada part seems a problem but is an identifier.

With the older daughter born in 1883, could this be the couple married in 1875? Looking at the other children on the list we can add to this family, creating this corrected family group:
Patrick Kennedy b. 1854 Canada/eng
Mary Collins b. 1856 Ire marr 1875
Son Kennedy b. 19 aug 1875 Chi (KLCX-KZ6)
Margaret b. 3 Nov 1880 (G3R2-369)( she married George Gibson and died in Iowa. She does have a birth record which names her father from Canada and Mother as Mary Collins Kennedy.)
Elizabeth j b. 27 b. 1883 Ill
Verona 19 b. 1891 Ill
Oliver 15 b. 1895 ILL LY7Z-HTM
Edward J 11 b. 1899 Ill (see notes his pg)
John S 5 b. 1905 Ill
More on search--
*Looking at Patrick Kennedy M6L5-RNG and changes, he began in 2012 with marr to Mary Collins and their marr date of 3 Feb. 1884. After that there are 5 merges which should be looked at more carefully, with most of the merges happening in 2019. This same check for Mary Collins G3RK-BC6. This ID began in 2019 and has had 4 merges plus several Not A Match's with several other names.
*By 1880 there are at least 3 Patrick Kennedy men on the census, all single. It is difficult to know what happens next for these unless closer look at addresses and occupations may help.
