Who's closing down Community discussions - and why?

I have been rather surprised to find some threads being closed for further comment recently. I would understand that had they become contentious in nature, but (in all but one) they had been quite amiable in nature and an extra comment or two would have presented no problems at all.

Has there been an instruction to moderators to close threads once they appear to have "served their purpose", or has there been some sort of misunderstanding here?

I'm sure (like me) other Community members sometimes feel a need to update their remarks (maybe to acknowledge they had presented incorrect information), so please don't shut down these items too quickly!

As for this moderator, I have not received that instruction.

@Paul W I, too, have noticed certain threads being closed and wondered why. I suspect that we are as likely to receive an answer to who/why as we are to be told the details of contracts with record holders.
