I am frustrated because one ancestor was changed on my pedigree and it of course changed all the ancestors past that. I have no idea of knowing which ancestor is actually correct. It's interesting though because I show up as a desendangt for both of the ancestors though only one can be right and only one shows up on my pedigree.

How did it get changed? How can I change it back? There are no notes about anything being changed and no documents to support the change attached to this persons file.

It sounds like someone had an extra parent or parents added. In such cases, pedigree charts show the parent who is marked "preferred" in your account; if you've never looked at those profiles to set that "preferred" status, then it defaults to the relationship that was most recently edited.

I believe the setting can be changed from one of the two pedigree chart views (landscape or portrait), but I basically never use those, so I don't remember which one it is or what the setting even looks like. What I do know is that you can change the setting from the child's profile details page, where it is located at the top left of the Family Members section.

If you want to share the PID of the ancestor in question, someone can help you take a look at the changelog to see what was changed and when.

Unfortunately it's regarded as one world tree belonging to all of us. We agreed to it when we signed up. Sadly well intentioned people do make a bit of a hash. We've all been there. You can put comments on individuals on the tree to try and show people what's right and wrong. Also you can add a gedcom file that cannot be adjusted, only deleted by you.

Thank you all so much for your help. I was able to go in through his son at put in my preference for the previously listed father. I also was able to see who edited the document and I reached out to that person. I would like to see what evidence supports the changes he made.
