Former Alligiance
When it says, "George V, by the Grace of God, Great Britain, Ireland, the Dominions beyond the Seas, King, defender of the faith, and Emperor of India." Do we really have to include all that? How about condensing to King George V of Great Britain, Ireland, India, and other dominions?

Just like we drop the identifiers, like County in place names, I think you could drop them in this field. Maybe they could revise that field help and project instruction!
- The former allegiance may refer to a country or a specific world leader. Index the former allegiance as it was recorded. Do not assume the former allegiance from the birth country.
George V, Great Britain, Ireland, India should suffice as it is a specific world leader and his countries. "By the Grace of God...Emperor of" are not helpful in defining allegiance.
But, if you want to follow the "rules", take out all of the commas and the words will all fit.

@patrickseancollins1 @erutherford I just had one like this "George V, by the Grace of God, Great Britain, Ireland, the Dominions beyond the Seas, King, defender of the faith, and Emperor of India." and the entry field stopped accepting characters after defender of the faith.
So I am assuming that's all I write. Patrick, were you able to fit in all the words?

I can only think of maybe two projects where what we indexed in certain fields did not fit everything that should have been indexed, just like George V. In this project, the use George V's style is consistent with the other royal rulers; ie Nicholas II, Czar of all the Russians.
Queen Elizabeth's full style was Elizabeth II, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of Her other Realms and Territories Queen, Head of The Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith. King Charles' full style is Charles the Third, by the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and of His other Realms and Territories, King, Head of the Commonwealth, Defender of the Faith.
I've been indexing what I see, whether or not it all fits, as the researcher will be able to see the entire style.

Yes, I think I see the intention of the "Oath of Allegiance". Our ancestors who came to America were compelled to give their allegiance to a sovereign ruler. There allegiance was not to a nation or to a people but to a person. Whereas, we pledge our allegiance to the Flag and to the United States of America. So it is necessary to include the name of the sovereign from the nation or country that they left, but not necessarily all of the titles that sovereign held.
While indexing with a group in meeting together in our ward. One of our members was only indexing the name of the countries like Great Britain, Russia, and Germany. I pointed out that our ancestors pledged their allegiance to a King or a Queen.

I've never encountered a naturalization record where they wanted me to index the person's former allegiance. They ask for the birth country, but that isn't the same thing. They could've been born somewhere completely different and moved to the country that they are now rejecting allegiance to.
This is for a naturalization record, right?

This is part of older Oaths of Allegiances where they renounce their allegiance to the ruler of their country, even though the petitioner may not live where the ruler is based (ex: Canadians are ruled by King Charles III). To give you a time frame, George V was King of the United Kingdom, the British Dominions and Emperor of India who reigned from 1910 until his death in 1936. He was the grandfather of Queen Elizabeth II.

@erutherford I've seen a lot of records like that, but I've never seen it ask me to index the ruler's name, which is what patrickseancollins1 seems to be trying to do.
