Can anyone please tell me why when a Merge Persons lists another child, adding that child creates a
Normally I would add the child manually to prevent this from happening but it would be a lot easier to just take it over espically with an instance I have now with 11 duplicates.

It is about the ID numbers. If different numbers for children you keep merging them. If for example you see a husband and wife with children and you are merging one of the parents...if they child has the same ID on both halves of the merge screen then do not move the child over. He/she is already there. If you move them that is when you see the hanging one parent one child events.

possibly because the duplicate children were two different records (albeit for the same person).
there are various scenarios
can you point us at the specific case?

Thank you both for your replies. Sorry I didn't explain the problem very well. When looking at the Merge Persons page the children are not listed on the left hand side of the page just the right so not a duplicated but a new child to add. It's when I add the child that it creates a second set of parents with that new child on the main page. Seeing your mention of ID numbers Cindy, I've just tried copying the ID number for the new child from the Merge page and adding them on the main family page to see what would happen and its worked no duplicate parents but why should it work that way!!!
