    The time line map is just a standard Google map. I don’t know how up to date this is: https://blog.google/products/maps/google-maps-gets-new-look/ but it has names for a lot of them.

    @MWrucke I think you're asking about the icons that FamilySearch places on the timeline map to indicate that some event happened at that place. Here are three examples:

    I don't know of a legend for all of them, but if you simply click on an icon in the map, then the corresponding item in the textual timeline will be highlighted and then it will be obvious what it is.
