My family tree goes back to the year 1000. How is it possible to research that far back and think it

My family tree goes back to the year 1000. How is it possible to research that far back and think it is accurate. My question is this: Are these trees informed to any extent by FamilySearch or is it all done by others whose ancestors are on the tree?

How can someone who is not a professional genealogist take a tree back to the year 1000?

the truth is in many cases you can NOT reliably speaking

most lines before about 1400 or so - are royal lines - not lines of the common people.

These royal lines often only have a original few sources - that are usually royal pedigrees that have been preserved.

and when you were royalty you had the power and finance to make you pedigree say whatever you wanted it to say. . . .

and if you made it back to the year 1,000

you can surely connect with various published lines that supposedly go back all the way to the times of Christ and then tie in to biblical genealogies that often trace to Joseph of Arimethea and then back tying into ancestors of Christ and back into the old testament prophets all the way back to Adam . You can surley find such lines . . . whether I think you should even begin to trust them is a whole separate subject.

If you really believe all these lines between about 1400 back to the biblical period - then I have some property in San Francisco to sell you - you dont need to see it - just trust me the way you trust those old genealogies . . .. <sarcastic>

Its a novelty these genealogies that go back to Adam . . . entertaining - but PLEASE don't think its scholarly research.

stick to people in the last 1-400 years or so and lines that you can find various reliable primary records as sources . . .

    • Thank you! That makes sense. I was thinking how in the world could someone correctly take their lines back 1000 yrs? That's why I wondered if possibly Geni traced/merged information somehow. I ended up stopping paying attention around 1600 because things started to not make sense. Thanks again for explaining. Your explanation is very interesting. Are you a genealogist?

I would guess the line back to 1000 is more or less true

    BUT at a high level

many of the details can not be verified.

there surely must be some generational errors in the line here and there

but most people are just copying these royal lines from one person to the next - devoid of any research - and even the people who do do the research - dont have too much to go on past like the year 1300 or 1400 other than a few royal pedigrees.

    here is my line:

I share it only for entertainment sake - not because I think it is prove-able or reliable.
