Passenger lists being indexed as Immigration events by FS

I have come across many instances of US citizens leaving the US to go on a vacation or arriving from another country (returning from vacation or military service overseas). These records have been indexed as "Immigration" events, which is inaccurate. I would consider them "Arrival in US" or "Departure from US" events, in the Other category. Is there a way to attach the indexed event to an existing tree and change the Immigration title to something else? The only other option I can see is to add a new source, copy the source information, attach it as an Other event, and ignore the indexed source, which is time consuming.

Thanks in advance for any tips!

The above, for Ray P. Lind, indexed as an Immigration.

Here is what I would suggest:

    1) Go ahead and attach the source through the source linker and move the information over as usual during the process just for reference. This does not attach the source to the event, just to the complete person.

    2) Go to the person's detail page and create a custom event with whatever custom title is appropriate and copying the immigration event information into it. Tag the source to this event.

    3) Delete the source linker created immigration event.

    4) Go to the attached indexed source and edit the title to correctly reflect what the source really is. Add a note if needed.

    Time consuming?

As Áine says, FS is far from the only genealogy site that overuses the word "immigration" to cover all sorts of things that really should just be labeled as "travel".

As Gordon says, you can attach the source regardless of how the index labeled it, and you can create a custom event with a correct label.

As for the event offered by Source Linker with the wrong label, I can see the utility of accepting it as a temporary reference, but I personally wouldn't bother: I can re-type a single date and place, especially now that I can tag the source and thus have it available to reference.

That's standard for most genealogy websites.

Thank you, Gordon, for this workaround. I'm always willing to do it correctly, no matter how much time it takes. I just wish FS had come up with an event title that was not inaccurate in the first place.

"I just wish FS had come up with an event title that was not inaccurate in the first place"

Well, yes. But in fairness I must point out that there were occasions when the authorities got it wrong and listed as Immigrants, people who are described as US Citizens on that very same form.

And, as I mentioned earlier, it is not only FamilySearch that classifies all arrivals as immigration.
