Famous relative notifications

How do I stop “Famous Relative” notifications? I can understand some people may like it but, for me, I find it pretentious. In addition to which, my latest notification claims John Wayne is a 10th cousin, a ‘distinction’ I’d prefer not to have/know about. Finally, many times the research has been faulty and I find there is no connection at all (as in the time I was notified that I had a relative that came over on the Mayflower). I do research on Family Search but I no longer maintain my tree here because of the fact that anyone can access my tree, or anyone else’s, and add incorrect information. I tried for over a year to straighten out familial connections on my maternal grandfather’s side before I finally gave up. Someone keeps adding siblings that my grandfather did not have because my great-grandmother’s name is similar to their great-grandmother’s name. I am interested in my direct family line, based on my own in depth research; they are famous enough for me. Thank you for any guidance you can give me.

On a main FS page (where the URL starts with www), click your name at the top right and choose Settings, then go to Notifications and turn off the slider next to "Discoveries about My Ancestors".

(Off is grey, on is turquoise. Yeah, I know, it's not exactly good interface design, but it seems to be the current style, not just on FS.)

It's a shame that FamilySearch doesn't see how annoying these notifications are. There again, many users seem really happy to receive them. I wonder how the algorithm is set to avoid telling them their ancestor might be a renowned mass murderer, though? I guess some people would be quite happy at being notified about that, too.

The problem in unchecking "Discoveries about My Ancestors" is that you would be prevented from receiving a variety of notifications - not just ones about "Famous Relatives". That suits me, but something others might want to think about first.
