Is it possible to find what each State Registrars accept as information on their Certificates of Marriage.

Has the information needed changed over the years.

I have quite a few marriage licenses/certificates in my files from years of research, from many different states. Forms have evolved over time. Most states have websites with details of the state's statutes/laws.

I just checked Virginia's department of health, and they have no such information on the vital records section for marriage certs. Ancestry's collection of marriage certs for Virginia allows you to browse by year, and I saw slight variations in the forms from the 1930s to the 1990s. It seemed most, if not all, of the information was retained in some form or other in every year.

I suspect you will just have to call the specific office for the state or county you are dealing with.

Thank you for your answer, this was a question from a guest and I think they have a bit of work to do here.

I would say so, too. There can be variations among counties or cities within a state. There's no single right answer to the question.
