Pop-Ups that are built into FamilySearch
Hello Sister or Brother,
This is my 3rd email to the Help email page, each time they think that it is the Pop-Ups outside of the program. So I'm trying again, as well as in this format.
You're just not getting it, if you'd read & looked at my email, I explained it out well. It's built into the FamilySearch program itself. I'll try to explain it again using this way, step by step....
- When I am working on my family, say I have my Grandfather's individual page open
- Now I go down to his Children, & press 1 of their names to open their individual page
- I press their name, it asks "Tree" "Person"
- I press Person
- Their page opens, then this POPS-UP
- Welcome, No matter your story, we welcome you to join us as we all try to be a little better, a little bit kinder, a little more helpful-because that's what Jesus taught.
- Web page... https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/comeuntochrist
Now do you see my problem, & why this is my 3rd request for help. It doesn't happen every time, but quite often. Then I press my back Arrow at the top and it takes me back to my Grandfather's page again.
After a while it becomes very frustrating.
Then other times I press their name, and their page just opens. If this happened every time then I wouldn't be contacting you, would I.

@William J. Don Outram I wonder ... is this happening now? If so someone from FamilySearch should look at your account logs - find which server/mirror is malfunctioning and correct the issue. It almost sounds like a hacked link.... If it was happening last night while maintenance was going on - best thing to do is shutter for the evening and try later ... But it looks like you are saying it was happening a few hours ago ...
Can you post a screenshot?
What system are you using (Windows, Mac,mobile)?
Is your browser updated? I think I saw some announcement about FamilySearch more aggressively requiring an updated browser?
In my opinion there should be a FamilySearch browser - that way users would always be up-to-date (but yes that's probably a bit too much to hope for)?

I am experiencing the same problem the last few days. .... for no reason at all, familysearch "jumps" to the churchofJesuschrist website. It seems to occur frequently and randomly. I don't believe it has anything to do with browsers, cookies, or patron caused actions. In my opinion, it needs some attention from the Engineers.

Thanks Melvin, I believe so too. Don O

I've had this problem right from the start, so I used the old program until they force me into use it. That's when I started sending emails. But, they thought that it was pop-up from outside of the program. But I've got a great pop up defender years ago, so I never get them any more.

Hello Maile L.,
I think that I know what is causing this repeated problem, when you go down the the individual you want in the list under parents, you press "Person" and it's located right over the Church Logo, it opens the individual page, then the "Church's Welcome" page opens over it.
The "Church Logo" is too Sensitive, causing it to open as well. This needs to be Desensitized, then I thing that after that only the individual's page of the individual you want will come up.

I wonder if the problem is caused by a double-click on the Person button. Certainly one need only single click on the Person button, but if you inadvertently or mistakenly double click on the Person button, and it is located directly above the Church logo, then you the second click of the double-click will be on the Church logo and so you will be taken to the Church website.
Here's a screenshot of a possible situation where the Person button is on top of the logo:

Thank you both for your input. That maybe it, I double click on the person, being older, & use to doing this for everything. So, I''ll try to remember not to do that.

This issue has been looked at. The Person link is meant to be clicked once. If a user double clicks in that spot, the link to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is opened. A single click on the Person link should resolve your problem. Thanks for your patience.
