A member told me that a Church authority in a contact with a non-member was able to see if they were related. According to the member the authority did that by only looking for the person's name.

I thought about - relatives around me... Any other suggestions? Do you remember which talk was? I appreciate any help. Thank you

Are you talking about the RootsTech function of Relatives at RootsTech. See this article that explains the feature and it has been extended to June 1st. Both people need to be signed up for Rootstech and it uses the connections from the tree. https://www.familysearch.org/en/blog/find-relatives-rootstech-2023
