When indexing Bureau of Land Management Tract Books, what names would go in the Other's names field? To Whom Patented, if there is a name there?

If you click on the Other's Field Help (purple circle with question mark) - if I recall from yesterday correctly - it mentions others for the transaction/purchase.?

It is always best to include the batch code with your post (the series of letters and numbers after the project title [XXXX-XXX] ) to get the best answer. Currently, there are two Land Management collections.

From the project instructions for Bureau of Land Management Tract Books, 1800–1955 [Part E]

    • If any person's name is listed in the "By Whom Patented Column," the names should be indexed in the Other Name fields.
    • If 2 names were listed in the "Name of Purchaser" column for the same transaction, index the second name in the Other name fields.
    • Not all transactions follow the columns exactly. Some entries are small and take up only half of the row. These entries should also be indexed.
    • Many "Other" name fields will be marked blank in this project.

The field help also has these details.

    From Part D's instructions:

    • Create an entry for every separate transaction, even if the name is the same. If a transaction was between more than 2 people, create additional entries to index all recorded names. If any person's name is listed in the "By Whom Patented Column," the names should be indexed in the Other name fields.
    • The principal person's name is usually found in the "Name of the Purchaser" or "Name of Entryman" columns. If 2 names were listed in that column for the same transaction, index the second name in the Other fields.
    • Not all transactions follow the columns exactly. Some entries are small and only take up half of the row. These entries should also be indexed.
    • Many "Other" name fields will be marked blank in this project.

    The field helps are similar.
