The isle of Man family history society advise that:

The LDS have copied all Wills and Decrees that were in the Rolls Office up to and including the year 1916.

The LDS film number on the family history website is not accepted on th Familysearch website can you help.

    From the index at:

    http://www.iomfhs.im/library.html

    Sayle William 1877 DGS A 6 106484

106484 - is the film number. One way to find that is from Search> Catalog (menu atop FamilySearch homepage):

    image.png

This results in three pages of results - on the second page you find (using browser Ctrl+F is helpful):

    image.png

You can either click the camera icon at the right of that row OR use the DGS to locate the images under Search> Images (which is a bit of another story). In this case I clicked on the camera. Once the collection is open - it is a matter of browsing/patience to find the image - from the index again:

    Sayle William 1877 DGS A 6 106484

6 - is the number of the will from the images (not the number of the image) - this turns out to be the 133 image of 1211 images in the collection (from Search> Images this time). Browsing those images for the will number is fairly easy to locate once you know what you are looking for:

Perhaps the easiest way to get your bearings in the collection is to begin near the beginning of the film images and find will No. 1 - then once you know what that looks like on the images you can fairly quickly browse through the pages/previews to see likely candidates for the numbered will pages - until you reach No. 6.

I hope these instructions may help anyone searching these unindexed Isle of Man wills.

    Sincerely and wishing y'all well,

    distant American cousin genthusiast.

@rosslynaitchison Does the following Search> Images list help?

    https://www.familysearch.org/records/images/beta/search-results?place=82&recordTypeIds=124457

What film number are you seeking?

Wills Index and Transcripts referenced at http://www.iomfhs.im/library.html include the following:

Probate records for the Archdeaconry Court of the Isle of Man, 1631-1874

    Probate records, 1659-1949

That is the exact Will I am looking for, so thank you very much.

The library staff tried but we were unable to find the image.

Could you tell me how to look, and I am happy to keep searching for other relatives on the Isle of Man.

The image number does not take me to the location.

    Thanks again,

    Rosslyn

Again thank you for much for your time and effort.

I have been able to search another Will, your instructions are very clear.

I will pass these on to the Isle of Man Family History society as they were unable to assist me to find the will and this will be helpful for maybe another member.

    Kind regards,

    Rosslyn Aitchison
