Connection in family tree

Hi,

Has anyone ever come across a relative and in trying to go back generations, there’s a major discrepancy in someone’s parents? So I like to go through the tree and find out each person’s relationship with me and I’m also writing it down. So seeing a daughter then go back to her mother then back to the mothers father, etc. It also helps validate that relationship. So the person I’m related, I’ve viewed the family tree that connects us and the I go through her tree. In going back in her tree, the father and mother are different than what is in our family tree. Has anyone dealt with that? If so did you do anything with it and if so, what did you do? Thank you in advance for any assistance someone can provide!

I believe this happens in most family trees. Please check the sources--birth records, particularly, to see parents listed. Census records can be helpful, also. Marriage records from long ago had parents listed also.

We are providing the link to the Knowledge Article on how to correct parent-child relationships. https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-correct-parent-child-relationships-in-family-tree.

We hope you are able to get your tree fixed up. PaulaAnn
