My great grandfather is listed as his own father

So Familysearch shows

Henry (1871 - 1950) married to Edith (1867 - 1960)

as the parents of

Henry (1871 - 1950) married to Edith (1867 - 1960)

This is silly!

How do I delete this spurious generation? It is not just two duplicated people, the entry needs to be deleted

Can you post the PID numbers? Does the child Henry have more that one set of parents? Are the PIDs the same for both Henrys? You will need to remove the relationship to the incorrect parent by clicking the Edit or Pencil Icon in the child box.

Hi Chas, I think I've sorted this out by saying it was a duplicate, them re-linking, but I lost quite a bit of information and it was messy.

I didn't think of editing the child box - that would have lost data as well, I suspect.

    Many thanks for your help

    Joan

Chas Howell gave the correct solution: edit and remove the parent-child relationship. That does not involve editing the person's profile, makes no mess, and loses no data.
