When a record for a person is created there is a record of that creation that gives the date the record was created, and the contact name of the person who created the record. You will need to be on the Detail or Person page of the ancestor - if on a computer, you would look for Latest Changes, on the right side. By opening that option you can see who and when the errors were made. I there has been a disconnect, you will also find the PID of the person who was disconnected, and can then reconnect them by that ID. It is wise to attach sources to give validity to your changes so the other person will just not change your information back. It is also a good idea to click on that contact name and if they have provided a personal email, you can send them a personal message. Or you can send them a message through our system.

Hope this helps.

the same page you saw the info in FamilyTree - - that same page you should be able to make edits - look for the links that say "edit".
next to each name is an ID number like 4G5H-Y8E
can you share with us the ID of your grandmother?

The ID is#GQ53-SQ5. Name is Elizabeth (Bessie) Tyler. Maiden name Bishop. Full name could be Nancy Elizabeth, not too sure here. She was just Bessie to all. Her dad, Edson Bishop #GQ5C-8DK. Brothers Irl Zebulon #GQ5C-XH4, John Russell#GQ5Z-QH4, Hugh #GQ5Z-QH4, and a sister who I don't know the name of.

So I see that you have been making changes to the family tree.
anything specific you are having difficulty correcting?

No, it's just getting used to how do do stuff. I do wonder how my grandmother accumulated all that incorrect history. Someone was confused. If I do correct the info, does it go back and correct the same info on the other time line? and family tree?

Im confused. what other time line??? what other family tree?
there is one database - that we all share - with billions of people - but one record for each person (as long as any duplicate records are merged)

also just a tip - and its no biggy . . .
but usually it is preferred that data being entered is entered in mixed case: Example: "John Jacob Smith"
and not all upper case "JOHN JACOB SMITH"
but it doesnt break anything or hurt anything if you do - mainly just a preference.

I probably don't know the correct terms. But some one put the wrong maiden name attached to my grandmother and a complete family tree with that incorrect name. Once I put her maiden name in the slot, the other tree went away. Did that get corrected on the tree that was in there in the first place. It corrected it for me. But someone still has the incorrect information. This is awkward to say in a way that is understandable.

Hi @LegacyUser,
It sounds like you are concerned that part of the pedigree the other guest entered into Family Tree disappeared completely when you corrected your grandmother's maiden name. We don't quite understand how the other pedigree got removed but be assured that the names entered on that pedigree are still there and are searchable by name, ID, and other information so that the other guest can still find them.

Everyone has left various answers about editing the vital information on the details page. Yu had mentioned you are new to Family Search. Family search has an excellent learning center and a help center found in the upper right hand corner. There is also a web site www.thefhguide.com that has many tutorials to help you understand and use Family Search.
