Document Overlapping Another Document

Document covering another document.PNG

I came across a document overlapping another document that is overlapped by yet another document, which cannot be read. I'm not really sure how to index this, if it should even be indexed. None of the project examples give a scenario like this. There is some information available to be indexed here, perhaps even all the information that needs to be indexed, but I figured I should ask.

Edit: I decided to go ahead and index it, and I was able to get all the information I needed. Since I can't delete the discussion, I'm just adding this at the end of it.

The project instructions for this project don't follow the general rules. Here is how to handle these from the Project Instructions:

    How to Index Overlays

    • An overlay is a document or note that partially covers another document. Some images show 2 pages—1 page is covered or partially covered by an overlay, and the other page is a duplicate of a page shown on an image in another the batch.
    • If the overlay shows a record that should be indexed in this project, index the overlay.
    • If the document behind the overlay is a record that should be indexed in this project, do not index the information on the partially-covered document.

In the case of the above photograph, you would only need to index the right hand side of the page. (The Petition).

You can look at the reference images to make sure that the Oath on the left and the Declaration were indexed on a previous image.

General rules say not to try to index any information under an overlay.
