Why does my tree change?

Some of the ancestors in my tree from a few months ago have just disappeared. One particular branch went back several generations more than it does now.

    Rick

    .

    Check out the "Latest Changes" Section, which is located on the 'left-hand-side' of the page/screen, for an individual/person; and, select the "Show All" 'Link' - open that in another 'Tab' or 'Window'.

    .

    Latest Changs

    .

    That will give you the "ChangeLog" for that individual/person.

    .

    You can then see if there has been ANY "Merges"/"Combines"; or, "Deletions", for that individual/person; and, their Family.

    .

    Try using the "Find" function/feature/facility to find an individual/person, if they seem to be missing from an Ancestral line.

    .

    Remember:

    .

    We do not have our OWN "Tree" in "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch".

    .

    We ONLY have "Branches", that are interconnected, in this SINGLE "One" World "Tree", for all of us, that is "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch".

    .

    "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch" is NOT like "Ancestry.com" or the like.

    .

    We DO NOT have "Private"/"Personal" 'Trees' in "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch", like other "Web" Sites; and/or, 'standalone' personal programmes.

    .

    We do not even, own; or, manage; and, are NOT even responsible for, the "Deceased" individuals/person in "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch".

    .

    "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch" is built on a "Open Edit" Platform - hence, why any registered User/Patron can "Edit" (ie. Add, Delete; and/or, Change) ANY "Deceased" individual/person in "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch".

    .

    You can certainly "Merge"/"Combine" any "Deceased" individual/person in "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch" with another "Deceased" individual/person in "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch", regardless of who the User/Patron was that initially created those "Deceased" individuals/persons; as, they DO NOT reside with the User/Patron who initially created them - they are "Public".

    .

    If fact, you can ONLY see "Deceased" individual/person in "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch"; except, with this 'rider', that you can ALSO only see "Living" individual/person in "Family Tree" of "FamilySearch" that YOU created; as, they reside in your "Private Spaces".

    .

    I hope this helps.

    .

    Brett gave some great advice. Keep in mind this is a collaborative database.

    we are all working together on the same database.

    It is quite possible that someone may have removed a relationship they felt was unproven or even false.

    I found quite a few links to Mayflower passengers in the Famous People section and now some have disappeared. What happened?

    @RobertaWraspir

    Bobbi

    Welcome to the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.

    I am just another 'lowly' User/Patron ...

    I believe that you may be refereeing to:

    Using the "Activities" 'Tab':

    https://www.familysearch.org/discovery/

    And, then, the "Famous Relatives" (ie. as you say, "Famous People") part:

    https://www.familysearch.org/discovery/famousrelatives

    IF, that is the case; THEN, ...

    I ONLY 'see' groups/sections for,

    ▬ Leaders;

    ▬ Inventors and Scientists;

    ▬ Entertainers and Artists;

    ▬ Church Leaders;

    ▬ Church Pioneers;

    ▬ Trailblazers

    There may be MORE; but, maybe, we only 'see', those that we are actually "Related" (ie. connected) to.

    I am just curious ...

    Is/Was there, a group/section, relating to "Mayflower Passengers" (or, the like)?

    IF, there was; THEN, maybe, such has been taken down/removed, for whatever reason.

    Just a thought.

    As an aside ...

    IF, you have not already; THEN, ...

    IF, one's "Ancestral" Lines, are extensive enough, in "Family Tree", of 'FamilySearch'; THEN, using (BYU) "RelativeFinder" is the go.

    Can I humbly suggest that a place where you should be able to 'See' your "Relationship" NOT only with, "Famous People" (including: those from the "Mayflower"); and, many, "Others"; but, ALSO between, (1) yourself and a "Deceased" individual/person; and/or (2) two (x2) "Deceased" individuals/person; and/or, (3) yourself and a "Living" User/Patron; PLUS, you can ALSO "Print" the connections/links between you and them is through (BYU) "RelativeFinder" ...

    And, it is simple, just a matter of "Signing In", with the credentials of your 'FamilySearch' Account; accepting the "Conditions"; and, the "Connection" between "FamilySearch' and (BYU) "RelativeFinder"; which, then becomes a "Partner" Account, that is "Connect" to 'FamilySearch.

    (BYU) "RelativeFinder" digs (pun intended) a lot DEEPER in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch', than 'FamilySearch' does.

    (BYU) "RelativeFinder" is one of the "Third Party" Applications that "Certified" to work with "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    BYU = Brigham Young University, in Provo, Utah, USA (ie. the Church University).

    From the "Family History Technology Laboratory", of the "Computer Science" Department.

    Here is direct link to "RelativeFinder"

    https://www.relativefinder.org/#/main

    image.png

    "RelativeFinder" has MANY 'Bells and Whistles', that you might find useful.

    Apart from "Famous People" and "Others" ...

    (BYU) "RelativeFinder" has some interesting options ...

    There is an option to see if there is a 'Connection' between yourself and a "Deceased" individual/person in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    Untitled Image

    There is an option to see if there is a 'Connection' between two (x2) "Deceased" individuals/person in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    Untitled Image

    There is an option to see if there is a 'Connection' between ("Living" - Users/Patrons) Friends in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    Untitled Image

    Magic

    Enjoy

    Good Luck.

    I just thought, that this might help/assist, somewhat.

    Now ...

    That Said ...

    Whereas ...

    IF, you are referring to individuals/persons "Disappearing" from your "Ancestral" Lines, in "Family tree", of 'FamilySearch'; THEN, that is another matter, entirely.

    IF, the latter, is the case; THEN, please advise.
