Frequently asked Question: What is the current functioning of Date Range search criteria in the search algorithm?

https://www.familysearch.org/en/blog/advanced-strategies-searching-records

- indicates that using exact search results cannot be performed on Date Range - which is a common question here in Community. However, Search tips document seems to indicate the usefulness of changing the Date Range.

The search results filters allow you to restrict results to a decade but not individual years. Are filters the continued planned feature roadmap - or will Date Range criteria at some time in the future be search limiting criteria? Will individual exact month/year filters be allowed in the future (i.e. Date Range: 1940-1940)?

Perhaps there is some documentation I have missed - so guidance to that would be appreciated.

@genthusiast The system still does not offer an exact search on dates. But modifying date ranges can change search results. Using the filters is also a good option when you want to narrow down your search results. We have not heard any plans to implement an exact date option in record search--which only means that we don't know, not that it will never happen. Many people have requested it, so I imagine it is something that developers have discussed.
