The Project Instructions have been updated for this project from previous Part B! Differences are shown below. Please remember to read the instructions before starting any project--and every new part of that project.

Thank you

INDEXERS

What to Remember about This Project

  • On baptism registers with Latin headings, "Nomen Xtianum" is Christian name, meaning given name. "Nomen Paganum" is translated as pagen name. Both names should be indexed in the Given Names field.
  • On marriage records, Latin "filium" indicates (son) or groom's parents. "Filiam" indicates (daughter) or bride's parents.
  • Some images in this project include more than 1 entry type on the same image. For example, an image may include baptism, marriage, and death records for the year on the same image. Please index each entry using the appropriate entry type of Baptism/Birth/Christening, Marriage, or Burial/Death. If baptism dates for the bride and groom were recorded on the marriage record, index only the marriage record since it is the primary record.
  • Do not index the names of godparents or witnesses in this project.

That is a really poorly written instruction. "Index each entry using the appropriate entry type" followed by "if baptism dates were given for the bride and groom only index the marriage because it is the primary record."

They needed to say don't create more than one entry for each primary record. If the baptism dates are given for the bride and groom, do not create a birth/christening entry.

I have been treating the "numen paganum" as middle names and putting them in the given name entry field as per the directions above. However, I just ran into a bath where the "nomen pagunum" names are the same as many of the surnames of the parents. I can't imagine that in these instances they would not be surnames, but the directions didn't allow for those circumstances. Any suggestions? I am currently putting them with the given name just to follow the directions, but I don't feel good about it.

I agree, but that is what FS and/or the client wants, and we are supposed to follow the Project Instructions/Example for this form.

If you are uncomfortable with it, send these form batches back and work on the other batches in the project. There are other forms that don't follow this format in the project.
