"Friends" Feature in FS Not Functioning?

I have been trying to use the "Friends" feature in FS for many months. What is up with it? Why does it not work? I have sent a Friend request to my brother for months and it still shows 'pending'. I also am not able to find anyone that I know to send an additional request...And I KNOW they have an account! They just can't be found. Please advise.

If you cannot find people in a directory search but you know they have an account - they have not enabled 'include my profile information in directory search results' in their profile settings.

If a request is 'pending' that should mean the person hasn't yet accepted the friend request. Once they accept a request - they should show up in the Friends list.
