Editing Indexed Records is a Big Mess Right Now.

I don't know how or who to notify that the editing feature of indexed records is a huge mess right now. The editing feature is not editing the record you are in but rather editing the head of household record. It has created a numerous list of the same edits by multiple users and and crossing the data between edits to other persons in the indexed record.

Please look at the United States 1900s Census https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MM5P-FXN. Specifically ID# KWZP-YP7 & KWJZ-3MS and all their children. It is not listing the proper relation to head of household nor gender etc. It's just mixing all the data fields up.

I found where I could edit an image ....from indexer error...child was Martin as boy but indexer had Marta a girl....so I edited the name from Marta to Martin but cannot change the SEX from female to male....so how to fix that as it is clearly part of the problem

The record collection: Mexico, Chihuahua, Civil Registration, 1861-1997 allows editing of some portions of the index. Unfortunately, gender is not one of them. There are a couple of options:

    1. You can go ahead and attach the record as a source in Family Tree from the record details page and make a note in the “reason to attach” field about the error in the index.
    2. You can choose to use the image as the source (instead of the indexed information), thus bypassing the flawed index. To do that, click to view the image and do one of the following:
    • Click to add the image to Source Box and attach it to the tree from Source Box.
    • Use the URL of the image and create a new source using the URL.

If you need more detailed steps, please see the Help Center articles:
