Please look at US New York Statewide Index to Land Records Grantees 1630-1975 Part C

M35J-D9C I have read the instructions. Example: John R Strong, Trustee of James S Wadsworth deceased The instructions are not clear to me as to which name to index. And what does Devisee mean on second page and what name do I index. If there is a better way to send the batch information to you, please tell me how.

It is a good thing I looked at the examples before I gave an answer!! for your first question look at example #2 and read the Note: at the bottom.

Apparently for this project you only index the deceased. This reminds me that the instructions for each project can be different and how important it is to study the instructions carefully. Yes I agree sometimes the instructions seem a bit confusing.

You 2nd question Devisee " a person to whom real estate is left by terms of a will."

With that said I cannot give you a definite answer as how to index those cases because they give the name of the deceased. I would think you would index both names on separate entries in this case but after reading the note mentioned above I am not positive.

The way you sent the batch information was good. I was able to go straight to the batch.

Hope this is of some help. It would be good if a monitor checked this one out!!

Reading the instructions under examples was something I've neglected to do. Thank you for pointing that out to me and hopefully 'Community Help' won't hear from me for a while! Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

We are always happy to help. Yes it is important to read all of the instructions when you start on a new batch.

I would have given you the wrong answer if I had not checked the examples.

Have fun indexing and a Happy Thanksgiving🙂
