link in messages seems to have disappeared again
the link you get when someone messages you from a profile page...it is gone again, I have tested on three browsers. Is it working for anyone else or is this site wide?

I've received two messages today and the hyperlink is missing from both. I use Chrome.

This is a similar trend. Not able to link back to record.
In message system the heading of the record shows.
About: Clara Cordelia Logan (1861–Deceased) • Person • Family Tree • FamilySearch
As you can see there is no record id.
Also no link back to record message is about.
I went to a record and tried to copy and paste in record name with its record Id and it would not pick up the record id. If you just want the record id system will copy only it.

When I get a message from another user the subject line currently shows as something to the effect of "Julian Jeske (1905–Deceased) • Person • Family Tree • FamilySearch." This used to be a clickable link that would take me to the person in question (though the link didn't work in the app, so I'd have to sign in on a browser), but it isn't any longer. Please bring the clickable link back AND I think it would be helpful to have the PID included in that subject line. This would make it much easier to find the person being referenced, particularly when they might have a common name or no birth/death dates.

When individuals message me about a person, that person's name, birth year and death year show up. Really need the person's ID # also to show up on that line.
I had a message about "Goldie Vernice Rosenhall (1929–1994) • Person • Family Tree • FamilySearch", but could not find her using the "Find" instruction. The person's ID needs to be included.
Thanks!

I did a search in the new Search app:
She appears to be the first result - PID: KWCR-SS2
She also appears as the first result in Search> Family Tree:

The About header is an active link to the profile.
I know many contributors don't realize this so I try to remember to include the PID in the body of my message. If I forget, I often get a reply asking for the PID, although sometimes the reply comes years later!

I just received a message with this heading and it took me a while (using FIND) to identify this individual. I looked back on my previous messages and have found there are links to the IDs in the subject heading. However, I'm sure other users have previously reported these to be missing when they received a message.
Below is an example of a message received in October, showing similar detail, but with a hyperlink:

There is an apparent problem with these "links" not always being active. There should be no need to include the person's ID if the expected behaviour worked consistently.

I just received another message and again there is no link to the ID being referred to. I thought this bug had been fixed - if so, it's back!

Would it be possible to have the FamilySearch person ID automatically added to the messaging system so the other person knows specifically who the message is about?

Hello,
I received an email that I had a new Message. That worked great. When I go to the message, I remember that if you clicked on the person in the about line you would open a new tab that would display that person's page. It does not work for this message. It this something that has been removed? Reinstating it makes tracking down the person so much easier.
Any ideas what is going on?
Thanks in advance!!

It's possible for a user to send a message without including a link to a specific family.
The "About" section in the message form, linking to a profile, can be deleted before posting.

I reported this problem on 7 December and another user has reported this, too, but there has been no response from a FamilySearch representative.
Perhaps a moderator would be kind enough to escalate the issue to the relevant engineers.

I also have reported this issue in the past.
I believe I was told they "were working on it"

Mod note - Several threads about lack of message links have been merged into this one. This issue has been reported. I will keep an eye on it and will definitely get back to you here when I hear something.
Personal note - I agree that having the ID included would be very helpful.

It used to be that the recipient of a message could click on the ABOUT field to access the subject Person Profile. This option has died.
Recently I have typed the Person Id Number in the SUBJECT field for ease in access during correspondence. Guess what: The SUBJECT field is not visible in return messaging!!
In order to return to the subject person while messaging, the PIN has to be in the body of the message.
Can you please return the convenient feature of linking the ABOUT field to the Person Profile Page--like it used to be.
Thank you,

When I want to communicate with someone about an ancestor we've both worked on, especially about ordinances that need to be completed, I am in the ancestor's person page and click on the message box of the person who has the ordinance reserved. A message box comes up with the ancestor's name and dates in it, but not the ID #. That can make it really hard for someone to find the ancestor that i am referring to if they have a big file.
Please add the FS # to the heading when a new message is started, or better yet, allow the person to just click on the name and go right to the person page.
Thank you

Hmm, this is an interesting observation. Historically the About section at the top of the message contained a link to the ancestor's record so you didn't really need the RIN. However, after reading this post I went back to my Messages and confirmed this is no longer the case. I hadn't even noticed before now. Newer messages do not contain a link, just the person's name and date as Karan Ravert described. Older messages still have the links. It appears this features was changed/broken somewhere between Nov 7-14, 2022. Can anyone else confirm they are seeing the same problem?
Example of older Messages with links (pre Nov 7, 2022):
Example of newer Message without links (post Nov 14, 2022:

I have messages received as recently as 3 Jan 2023 still with a link to the PID.

You got a linked message sent by somebody else using "Previous Version"
This issue had been escalated to the team January 24.

As of March 1, 2023, my messages from the person page don't have a link or ID number, although they should. But the message I received for a memory I had added DID have the ID link. It was so much easier! I keep getting messages about people and I have no idea who they are among the thousands of names on my trees.

I just received another FamilySearch message from someone in FamilySearch I have no idea which deceased ancestor they are talking about because they do not identify the name or FS ID#.
I recommend auto-linking the FamilySearch ID number of the deceased person's page from which they got sent their message from. I think they could only get my FamilySearch message link to send to me, by visiting a page of someone deceased I had edited. This would most likely be the page from the deceased family the person is messaging me about.
There are new inexperienced or elderly or absent minded people using family search messaging that don't always remember to identify the deceased who they are talking about, and having it automatically list the FamilySearch ID number could help.

David Brocious,
I am getting a rash of messages without the link since March 4.
This issue had been escalated Jan 24 and still not fixed. All I got was "Thank you" and nothing about who or what it is about.
It If you would just looked at the link Julia Szent-Györgyi ✭✭✭✭✭

NOTHING (my emphasis) to do with inexperienced or elderly or absent minded people.
It has to do with the "NEW VERSION" that is BROKEN. "PREVIOUS VERSION" always linked to specific individual automatically.
Don't "accuse" inexperienced or elderly or absent minded people for something they didn't do.
Moderator - will you please RE-escalate the issue? This is serious problem.

This is a problem also in the Family Tree mobile app. Messages started from a profile (or change log?) have an About line. The About line includes the person's name, birth and death dates, and then • Person • Family • Tree • FamilySearch but nothing is a live link.

When contacting a person about your relatives. This message tag the relative that you want talk about , but the ID number of the person is not included in the title of the message . This would help the other person to find the person in Question.

There has been a bug whereby the direct link to the page about whom the message concerned was not working. I believe that has been resolved now.
Regardless, it does not hurt if the user quotes the ID number within their message. I add ID references when adding items to the Collaboration section of an individual in Family Tree, as this proves useful if another user decides to merge this ID with another. The Notes / Discussion items often make no sense when carried over to the other ID (say the one you did not create / have been working on), so one can immediately see if the item was originally placed against the now deleted ID.
It's little trouble to add an ID yourself - there are places on the individual's Details page where you can easily copy it, then paste into the main body of your message to another user.

It used to be when you messaged someone about a person that their name and ID number appeared in the title so that all you had to do was click on it and it would take you to their record page. Now all you get is the name and nothing happens when you click on it. There could be literally hundreds of people with that name. Got to have at least the ID number but best yet is click on it and it takes you to their page. Thank you.

In my messages I just click on the name with no id # and it goes right to that person. It use to not but yesterday I tried just on the name and it went there! Maybe try again on just name. Hope that helped.
