1940 United States Census not fully indexed (1930 census has the same problem)
I was looking for my family in the 1940 census and could not find them. I then went to Ancestry and searched there and was able to locate them.
After locating them on Ancestry I used the family search catalog to find the correct enumeration district in the state and was able to see the same page on Family Search.
I have ran into this problem quite a few times where only a few records are indexed on the page and not the whole page. My family was one of those not indexed on the census page at
If you go to the url and look at the index at the bottom of the page you will see that there are only about 15 names on the index but there are 40 names on the census page. My family is Harry Dobbins, Della Dobbins, Ethel Carter and Jack Carter on lines 54-57 (inclusive) and they are not indexed.
Is there a way for me to report pages that are not completely indexed because I have come across this situation multiple times.
In the meantime I am using RecordSeek to attach the Census pages that are not completely indexed to my ancestor. (This process takes a lot longer than just attaching them through Family Search and after I attached them with Record Seek I had to edit the url so it would work. The process takes a long time compared to the amount of time it would take if the record was indexed correctly) You can view what I am talking about by looking at the sources attached to Della Awilda Crabtree Her PIN is L494-VVQ.
So I am asking again. Is there a way for me to report pages that are not completely indexed because I have come across this situation multiple times.
Thank you,
Tammy Hardy

@TammyHardy1 We have been seeing a lot of incomplete image indexes in various US Census records. We will add your example from the 1940 census to our report for the engineers.
Meanwhile, I did find Harry Dobbins when I searched the 1940 US Census on FamilySearch.org. Here is the link to his records details: https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KW8Z-3LM
But, when you can't find someone by searching, but do find the record image, a faster way than using a 3rd party product to attach it as a source might be to save the image to your source box and attach it from there. Here are some Help Center articles that can help with that process:

There is a current widespread problem in US Censuses I believe. If you Edit a person (name for example) - it is removing the index for the remaining household. This might be one source of the problem of a lack of index. I saw this occur in 1910 Census after editing a name. I am wondering if the implementation of the new Edit feature is contributing to this issue?
