    New Feature in our Community!!

    Happy Monday, beautiful friends!

Rise and shine! We have something exciting to brighten your day. Recently, we introduced a new feature to FamilySearch Community: a leaderboard that shows our most active contributors. You may have noticed it when you got on the website today on the Community Home Page.

     Hard work should be recognized!

Why are we adding a leaderboard to FamilySearch? Great question! Helping people learn more about their family history and overcome roadblocks in their research is an amazing gift of love and service, and we think the new leaderboard is a fun way to celebrate all the hard work taking place.

Here’s how it works: every time you help someone in the Community, you receive a certain number of points—almost like scoring a goal in a soccer game (nice shot!). There are several ways to earn points, including:

     ·  Starting a new discussion

    ·   Participating in an existing discussion

    ·   Responding to questions from other members

    ·   Reacting to a comment or post

    ·   Adding a profile picture

The Leaderboard shows who has the most points for the current week before starting over for the next week. It’s not meant as a competition, so please don’t ask for your lifetime stats! But week to week, we do want to acknowledge those volunteers who are giving so much of their time and effort to help others. We sincerely appreciate all you do!

     More ways to contribute

“Liking” and “upvoting” are two easy ways to react to posts you read on The Community—like nodding your head or saying, “Yep,” when you’re conversing in person. The Leaderboard gives you points for doing this because you’re helping to validate another person’s perspective or experience. Sometimes, all we really want is to be heard, right? Your reactions help people feel heard, accepted, and welcomed.

In the past, “liking” and “upvoting” were the only ways to react. But with the new Leaderboard, we thought we’d give you a few more options to choose from. One, these reactions help you communicate certain thoughts more quickly. And two, they help you score more points! Be sure to check them out the next time you’re browsing Community.

We’re not a Community without you!

We really appreciate all the time and effort you spend helping people in the FamilySearch Community. We hope the Leaderboard is a fun way to show our gratitude. We still have a few ideas we’d like to implement, so stay tuned for updates!

Most of all, thanks for all you’re doing to help people with their family history questions and challenges. You’re enabling joy and changing lives. We know that’s true, and we’re grateful.

     Warm Regards,

     FamilySearch Community Team
