Help Translating Names in Marriage Record
Hello,
Could anyone help me translate this marriage record? I've been looking for the marriage record for my 7th-great-grandmother for quite some time, and I think I may have found it but I'm not sure if I'm reading it correctly. Her name is Magdalena Bilger(in). I would be so, so grateful for any help.
Best,
Claire

Hello Claire,
this is your first post, so I hope you don't mind if I start with some advice:
https://community.familysearch.org/de/discussion/130603/how-to-post-a-request: always include information about the origin of the document (even if it says "alle von Basel" in the screenshot). If you found this online: always include the link. It is often helpful, if not essential to see a larger section to compare the writing.
I had also proposed a structure for discussion titles on https://community.familysearch.org/de/discussion/129680/what-title-would-be-best-for-postings and hope for many opinions: what do you think about this? Alternatively you could just adopt this format in your future postings 😉.
Now for your question:
Mr (Meister) Jeremiaß Erler, der Schuhmacher.
Magdalena Wittnauer, alle von Basel.
Would you, please, add the missing information: Parish, year, link (if online).
The problem is - neither Erler nor Wittnauer are listed in the Register of Swiss Surnames for Basel. There was a Wittnauer line in Basel - extinct now - this is why the year of your entry is important. Wittnauer could also be the old spelling for (now) Weitnauer, an old Basel family. Erler could be a German person, just living in Basel, possibly getting Basel citizenship - but an extinct line by today.
Best regards - Wolf

Hi Wolf,
Thank you very much for this information. It's extremely helpful.
I apologize for leaving out information I should have included; going forward, I will be sure to include the link and more information on where the information can be found. I will also do my best to adhere to the helpful structure you provided about discussion titles.
This entry can be found here, on the left page, about two-thirds of the way down: https://memory.bl.ch/familienforschung/kirchenbuecher/binningen?imgviewerid=Tm9kZVR5cGU6MTM2ODAy&viewerPage=7&context=%2Ffamilienforschung%2Fkirchenbuecher%2Fbinningen&contextText=Kirchenbücher%20Binningen
The Parish is Binningen. I'm not sure about the date, but I believe it is 17 June 1720.
Thank you again for your help! It's very much appreciated.
Best,
Claire

As I was going to add further information on these Basel families, I have started a new discussion in the Switzerland Group: https://community.familysearch.org/de/discussion/133336/binningen-bl-marriage-1720-erler-weitnauer/

Ooops - I just note we are already in the Switzerland group 😞 ... had it mixed up with another (recent) "Swiss question" in the Germany group.
