Sources to find trade/job
I am researching Solothurn 1800-1850's. I have been able to find two different families that might be the family for my 2GGrandfather. Is anyone aware of any records that might show the trade/job for individuals. My George Meister was a butcher and I would like to find out if either of these families were also butcher. Any help, suggestion is appreciated.

Hello Sharon,
to answer such a general question is difficult - especially for me with no relevant experience in canton Solothurn.
Church records often include professions - but very much depended in the priest. Solothurn church records have been filmed and may be viewed from Family History Centres.
From 1831 onwards communities were obliged to keep citizens' registers (which in canton St.Gallen included professions) - but I have been told that this was ignored in most communities. Which communities kept such registers - and how they can be viewed, I have no idea.
If you ask specific questions, giving names and dates of your ancestors in question, it may be easier to find helpful responses. In case you want to do that … I had proposed a structure for discussion titles on https://community.familysearch.org/de/discussion/129680/what-title-would-be-best-for-postings and hope for many opinions: what do you think about this? Alternatively you could just adopt this format in your future postings 😉.
