How do I suggest a correction to the name of a ship that is incorrectly indexed?
My ancestor, Andreas Czech, was listed as a passenger on the JS Cindesia, which arrived in New York on 14 March 1881. (Source: "New York Passenger Lists, 1820-1891," database with images, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QVSK-R7RJ : 20 February 2021), Andreas Czesch, 1881; citing Immigration, New York City, New York, United States, NARA microfilm publication M237 (Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.), FHL microfilm 295,798, image 138.)
There is no record anywhere of such a ship. A copy of the name of the ship on the front page of the manifest looks like this:
I searched the New York Times for that time period for the names of arriving ships. A steamship named the SS Cimbria arrived in New York on 14 March 1881, so this is probably the correct name of the ship. Found in New York Times under "Marine Intelligence – Arrived". (The New York Times, New York, New York, 14 Mar 1881, Mon, Page 8.)
How do I suggest that the name of this ship be corrected in the index?
