Indexing a 2-page document
I have information about a person that is spread over 2 pages (name, sex, age, date of burial on one page and date of death on a second page). Do I mark the second page as indexable and leave all entries blank except for date of death or do I mark it as containing no extractable data and then put the date of death with the other information about the person (as if the information were on page 1)?
Thank you!

Hi Sarah
it depends on the project, which is why it is important to post the Batch Code found at the end of your batch’s name - looks like MXXX-XXX - when you ask a question. Some projects want you to treat each image separately - so check your Project Instructions (PI). But in general you would do what you suggest. Here below is the subsection of the General Indexing Guidelines (GIG) guidance on this issue. It is usually the last section of the PI.
What to Do When Records Span 2 Images or to View Additional Images
- If the first record on an image begins on a previous image, don't index it. The record will be indexed as part of the previous batch. Start indexing at the first complete record.
- If the last record on an image continues to the next image, index the entire record, including what continues to the next image.
- To see the next image while continuing to index information for the current image, do the following:
1. In the top corner of the image window, in the vertical toolbar, click the Reference Images
icon.
2. Below the screen on the right, click a thumbnail next to the image you are currently indexing.
3. Index the record while viewing both images at the same time.
4. To exit split screen mode, in the vertical toolbar, click the Reference Images
icon.

Remains confusing. If second page is given as a separate image and there is no name on it.

@nanlwar Are you working on Minnesota Veterans Graves Registrations? If so, please share your batch code [1111-XXX] so we can better help. This project contains only 2 images per batch and usually page 1 (the front side) is on your left in My Batch with page 2 (the back side of the record) is on your right. 😎

Although this one has two distinct images, there still is no verifiable name on the second image.

@nanlwar Hi, please see the example given in the PI for indexing page 1 and for page 2 . Use the open book icon so you can see both images to index the info on page 2 as part of Image 1 indexing fields for Veteran name H. S. Bevans . When you finish indexing the record, go to Images (Step 1) and mark Image 2 NNED then run quality check and submit. Have a merry indexing night. 😎 P.S. for batches not covered in the PI Example: When page 1 (the front) of the Grave Registration is on your right, the matching page 2 (the back side) will be +1 in the reference pages. Go ahead and use the Burial place and Cemetery Name on the +1 reference. When page 2 (the back side) is on your left, the matching page 1 will be -1 in the reference pages -- this record has been or will be indexed by another indexer. Mark this image (the left-hand image in your batch) NNED. I hope I haven't thoroughly confused you with my explanation. Give it a try and email me if you like, I'm on Utah time and I check community discussions every day 😎

When the first image in your batch is the back side of a record, mark the image No, No Extractable Data in Step 1. Index the 2nd image of your batch, using the Reference Image +1 to complete your record.
If you need to return to Step 1, click on the grey box that says Step 2 entries and toggle back to Step 1.
Reference Images are opened by clicking on the bottom icon in the vertical toolbar on the image window.
