How do I index Assignees

Hello,

This is the batch I am working on. I am on the second page and it has a list of "Assignees"

US, New York, Statewide—Index to Land Records, Grantees, 1630–1975 [Part C][M35N-BNQ]

I've looked through the project instructions and can't find anything about how to go about indexing this part. I know we don't index "Executor of" and "Trustee" names....

Thanks

Denise L

    I’ll give you my opinion.

I would not index the title/word “Assignee” but would create separate entrees for the names of any “Assignees” found in those Grantor or Grantee columns, putting them in Grantor or Grantee fields as appropriate. I would also index the person they were the “Assignee” of.

In other words, I would ignore the word “Assignee” but would appropriately capture all the names found in those Grantor and Grantee columns.

I can also give you my opinion and that is that I would treat this as a you do a Grantee. Most of the land records that I have done tell you that if you find anything that has a different name for Grantor or Grantee tells you to do that and they may have just missed adding this to this particular batch. So basically, I am agreeing with John. If you don't feel comfortable doing this, you can always return it for another batch.

    According to the PI:

When typing the name of the grantor or grantee, do not include descriptive words or terms, such as "by Atty," "et al," or "and spouse," that may have been written with the name.

Assignee falls under this rule. Both @John Empoliti and @slotbuddy are correct. Drop the "Assignee" and treat them as you would a regular entry.
