Can’t find documents on my great grandmother
Hey guys, I really need some help. I’ve been having trouble finding a birth certificate, christening, marriage document/license, year book, you name it! The only thing I’ve found on my great grandma was her death certificate. She passed away in Mexico in 1975. In that particular certificate, it mentions that she was originally from Indiana, United States, born around 1919, but I’ve checked Indiana records, and there’s no birth certificate. My grandma mentioned that her mother moved to Mexico and married her father at a Catholic Church in Guanajuato, Mexico, but I didn’t find any marriage certificate or license for that either. I just really can’t find anything on her. I’m so frustrated and sad. My grandmother doesn’t know much about her mom so it makes it even more difficult. Does anyone have any recommendations or resources? I could really use the help. Please and thank you.

There's no reason to be sad; more records are available all the time and unfortunately, indexes have many errors. Did you check the 1920 census to see if she's in Indiana then? I'd recommend that you schedule a one on one meeting with a genealogist to get personal help with your research. That service is free. Under Family Search Help, look for Free Research Consultation. Good luck!

Many states did not keep early birth records and other locations may restrict availability of vital records within the last century or longer, for reasons of personal privacy. My parents were born about the same time as your great grandmother, and birth certificates simply don't exist for either of them. Not all records are online.
