"(Nomen Xtianum), means the Christian name"

"In other batches of the same project, names listed under the Pagan Name are typically other Christian names. I'm just going to put them both in the given name field"

We are instructed to index both names in the Given Names field. There is an example in the Project Instructions.

I am working on a family tree for one of my students and have found a lot of changes in parents, Grandparents, etc. in the last couple of days. I am doing the Heald Family and the 3 earliest couple's names have been changed from their earlier ones. Ancestry and Family Search have had my original names sinceI started about 15years ago. what has happened?

They are both first names. The paganum, or pagan name, is their given name at birth. Christian missionaries required natives to change their name as proof of conversion before baptism. So, Xtianum is Christian name and Paganum is original or preconversion name. Both are first names.
