Why is the indexing project list shrinking?

Over the last several months the project list for indexing is shrinking and I don't find projects that I like to spend my time on.

    Thank you for your service!

Projects are posted to be indexed when the 'owner' of the documents (government, church, etc) contracts with Family Search to do the work. It will then go through some reviewing for the type of document it is, and instructions and field helps are written.

Keep checking the list, projects will show up when this process is done. It's not surprising when the 'beginner' ones go fast!

Beginning batches have been nonexistent for some time now. This is distressing for those who are wanting to teach beginners. If a beginner batch should show up, please, those who are more advanced, leave these for those beginning indexers and do a batch that is more challenging. We are not going to encourage indexing for newbie if there are only the intermediate and advanced batches available. Of course it is fun to do an easy batch, but it isn't fair to the beginners.

My German-speaking mother-in-law is living with us. I thought it would be great to get her involved in indexing German records. Unfortunately, none are listed as being available.
