Does this batch fall under NED or does it get indexed? It has a date, but it mainly contains a name and page number. https://www.familysearch.org/indexing/batch/4b5574fc-99c8-454f-98e9-e136c1e73cc2

Project Instructions say: "Indexes are images with only a name and reference information, such as page or volume number, with no other information, such as dates, available. Indexes should be marked as No, No Extractable Data."

Since this has dates and it says it's a register, it should be indexed.

Thank you for your help. Now, can you look at the batch again and tell me if the second column should be indexed? To me, it should but I am just not sure since the actual person that died is not listed, their owner is listed. If my thoughts are correct, wouldn't I just leave the deceased given and surname blank and add put in the owner name instead?

It doesn't make sense to, but the instructions say to index other information if the name of the primary person isn't given. Since there's a place to index the owner's name, I would index it.

Just so I am correct, the first person in the second column had three slaves pass away. I just want to make sure that I am doing it right. These people need to be accounted for correctly. Thank you so much for your help!

You wouldn't put the owners' names as the deceaseds' names. The deceaseds' name fields would be blanked. The last two entry fields are for the owners' names. I don't understand why we would index them in the first place since there's no way for a researcher to know for sure that that's his ancestor who died when a slave owner mostly likely had more than one slave. But going strictly by the instructions, that's how we would do it. Hopefully someone who has better insight will respond here. We can't contact Family Search Support anymore like we used to. We have to get our answers in this forum.

@Dianah Ross and @barbaragailsmith1 what I see in this snip is a blank page on the left and on the right are two columns clearly labeled "Names of Deceased" and "Names of Owners of Deceased Slaves" however there are 2 death dates, what am I missing that tells you to <blank> the Name of Deceased? When I looked at the indexing fields, the name of the deceased is filled in but the owners are <blank> ex. line 1 deceased is Oscar White, Death Date Sept. 15 and owner should be marked as John H Wickham. And there's nowhere to put the 2nd Death Date June 29 Do we assume both columns are used for indexing deceased?

There are two columns. The first column is a list of deceased and the second column is a list of deceased slaves, thus the two different death dates and page numbers. I've reviewed several of these batches of deaths and each page has two columns. The right hand columns are separate deaths from the left hand columns. This column for deceased slaves only gives the names of the owners. Mary Ellen, the right column has been indexed after the left column.

But you know what, Dianah... I see now that this isn't a register but is an index to a register. (None of the others I've reviewed have been indexes) So even though it has dates, the instructions say to mark indexes NED. Even though this index has dates (which it sounds like we would index), I'm not sure now that it would be indexed. I don't know how we would tag a moderator who has access to Family Search Support (since we don't have access anymore) to find an answer.

Thank you, Barbara and Dianah. It does make one wonder how we can do these projects accurately and provide the information required by the project owners and the researchers who come across these projects.

Thank you Barbara and Mary Ellen. I truly appreciate your help on this matter. I will mark these documents as NED. Thankfully, those documents go to an index analyze team and they will take a second look at them. I always want to make sure that no one is missed on these records. Thanks again!
