Merging Difficulties

A guest sent the following: "After you merge a person, you cannot go back to where you were, but rather you have to close out and re-enter.  This does take up a lot of time and is inconsistent with your program which is very good except for this.  Also, you cannot cut and paste a persons ID number and put it in the merge field.  It has to be typed, not copied and pasted.  Can you fix these issues?" Any helpful comments I will pass along to this guest.

I don't have trouble with anything he is saying. Merging leaves me at the detail of the survivor of the merge. I always copy and paste the ID number, including several times today, into the merge field.

You need more information: What device is he using? What operating system? What browser? Or is he using the mobile app? Can he give an example of his exact workflow?

Also, you cannot cut and paste a persons ID number and put it in the merge field.  It has to be typed, not copied and pasted.

In the past week, I am seeing on the web interface that copy paste of PIDs into the Merge By ID tool has included an invisible extra character, so the pasted PID is invalid. I am a very frequent user of that tool, and this is a brand new bug. Usually, I am copying the PID from within the Source Linker, where on the right side PIDs are displayed but lack the pop-up Copy ID tool; I find and merge a lot of duplicates while attaching records. My work-around: I cut and paste as usual, then a single backspace/delete key press removes the pasted invisible character and makes the PID valid.

That said, it sounds like the contributor may be using the smartphone app. There, if I start a merge from the profile that gets merged away, I then end up on an Unavailable Page. I can only back out to the Recents list. Very often, the other duplicate I just merged was not a profile I visited recently, so the post-merge PID does not appear on the Recents list. This is an old bug / omission I have not yet sent to the engineers. Perhaps mods here could escalate this for me?
