It appears these people were skipped during indexing - is it possible to add them?

@NM78, it's not exactly clear from the other commenter's text, but no, published indexes cannot be added to. The crucial sentence is "Once they have been indexed, we have no way of amending those documents and images that are incorrect."
Some fields of some indexes can be changed (corrected), but the index-correction feature cannot add or delete fields or entries. For example, if a record doesn't name a child's father, but the indexers filled in the field with the maternal grandfather's name, you can replace Grandpa's name with dashes, but you cannot delete the father fields. As another example, if an image lists six people, but only five were indexed, you cannot add a sixth line. If one of the existing five lines is your relative, you can try doing a favor to the sixth person's relatives by changing your relative's index entry into theirs. (You've already found your relative, so you no longer need the finding aid of the index.)

All the indexers for FamilySearch and other Genealogical websites are volunteers and have been indexing these types of documents for a long time. We recognise along with all our Sister Genealogical sites that mistakes happen during the indexing process.
Once they have been indexed, we have no way of amending those documents and images that are incorrect.
Therefore, we ask the person finding those mistakes to amend them if they feel that they can, to make the changes following the information that we provide.
Occasionally, the clerk or person who created a record made mistakes. While you are indexing, you may find errors like these:
- On a death certificate, the clerk might have listed the death date as February 30, but February does not have 30 days.
- A placename might be obviously misspelled.
- The sex does not seem to match the given name and relationship.
The general rule is to type what is on the image, even when the information seems to be incorrect, but rules vary from project to project. Check the Field Help to see what guidelines, if any, are given for making corrections. Often, misspelled placenames can be fixed.
For projects that give both a given name and relationship, and when the sex listed does not match the other 2 indications, list the correct sex based on the other information. For example, if the given name is Rebecca, and the relationship is Wife, but the sex is M (for Male), type an F (for Female) in the Sex field. Note: M or F will vary, depending on the language in which you are indexing. For example, in Spanish the sex code is typically H (hombre, for man) or M (mujer, for woman).
Remember, indexed information is meant to link the digital image of a document to the record. An individual can then see the information on the original document and determine what corrections to make for the information listed.
This information was found in the article entitled https://www.familysearch.org/en/help/helpcenter/article/how-should-i-index-record-mistakes maybe found in the article we have attached to this email along with the hyperlinks to make it easier to reach and study
We thank you for bringing this matter to our attention and wish you well in using the worldwide FamilySearch communal tree.
Kind Regards

Do I understand you correctly that I can become an indexer and add people to the referenced census index? If so, how? I can see an edit button for ORA KIRK on the 1920 census, but don't see how to reassign her indexed family to the proper family and paging forward two pages on the original record to her actual family - I don't see a way to add the missed family members. I'm thankful that when I called in about this, Elder ____ was able to quickly find the family members 2 pages ahead. It seems two pages were switched on the original record, and the 2nd part of the family (at page break) was never indexed. (This is not a case of listed incorrect date etc but rather people never indexed at all. AND.... on separate page, family members listed with wrong family.) I'm glad to try if you tell me how.
