Abraham V. DeWitt is listed as both the Assignee and Mortgagor. Should I put his name in the corresponding fields? I haven't come across this before.

Sometimes, seemingly peculiar data is entered in records, and although we try to understand what is written and make sense of it all, our real job is just to transcribe what has been written and leave the interpretation to the researcher. If that is how it has been written, then that is what you should index.

Thanks. I wanted to be sure before I went any further with the batch.
