Is there a “Correct this in IMAGES” category in the Community?

@Mark McLemore

hi Mark,

I’m wondering if there is a category for fixing/recommending corrections to titles/dates/record type, etc. that are currently inaccurate in the search IMAGE metadata fields?

All digitized films & fiche currently in the FS Catalog will be removed from the Catalog and moved to IMAGES. When Images was new, the goal was to immediately (within 24 hours) share the digital records online. Understanding of the cataloging process and needs was shifted and many earlier films we’re not cataloged correctly. Now that the FS Catalog will be replaced with cataloged books only, I need to know how to share info with the appropriate Team.

For example (I forget exact places and names) what was titled as Wisconsin birth, marriage, and death records was actually Gertrude and Wayne Hansen’s digitized scrapbook from Salina, Utah repeated six times for each date category.

Where is the best place in the Community to share needed updates with the IMAGES team for inaccurate Titles, Dates, Authors, etc. ?

If there is a FEEDBACK button on the page, where would that feedback go?

Thanks for all your work!

Best, Lori Grua

How will this work? As I understand the situation currently, only those microfilms available FULL VIEW without restriction appear in Images, even though all microfilms have been DIGITISED. Currently any microfilms which have viewing restrictions do not appear in Images (to my knowledge). And what happens with those records which are available full view to church members, but non church members are required to view in Family History Centers, or worse are not able to view at all?

Also I have never heard or read anything which indicates any fiche have been digitised. Are you saying that there are some digitised fiche? Even if digitised, I suspect, but do not know for sure, that most digitised fiche would be subject to copyright restrictions, so how does this work in Images?

I seem to recall @Julia Szent-Györgyi expressing some strong negative views about Images. Perhaps chaos is ahead with these changes?

@Lori Grua While you wait for more details from Mark, I can let you know that every page in Images has a Feedback button. I see it in the lower-right corner in Firefox, but location might vary depending on browser and screen size. We are told that feedback sent that way goes directly to the development team.

Looking at the new version that will be rolling out, it is still there--moved to the left border of the page in Firefox.

So, it's not going away with the update.

See this thread from a few months ago. https://community.familysearch.org/en/discussion/comment/408700

According to @Lynn Turner, the catalog is NOT going away.

I sincerely hope this is a misunderstanding, as Images is currently not fit for purpose when searching for these records.

Most of us continue to access images via the Catalog, as using the Images section is not generally a viable option.

I agree with Paul W: Images is completely unusable. It fails to identify basic things like the church denomination, there is utter chaos in the location identifications, and there are so many other errors that it would be a full-time job for multiple people to find and report them all.

Please, someone refute this rumor, because it's terrifying.
