How to index Middlesex Burial Records
Hi, I'm just starting to index these burial records and have a question.
There is a heading for "From" on the record, but no info about the name of the parish. I'm sure the info in the "From" column is not the parish name, so I'm assuming the Entry field for Parish would be marked as "Blank". Is this correct?
Yes, you are correct in your assumption. There is no parish mentioned. Many of the entries on the record are just a street, not even a town, so you would mark that field "blank".
I hope ths helps

Hi Patrick. Those little pieces of paper are photographers markings to show that they have photographed the image more than once. We wouldn't mark it as a duplicate image. It still needs to be indexed, unless it is a duplicate is in the same batch. If these Middlesex burial records are the same as others, often the photographer has photographed the top and then the bottom of the record of the record and captured a little of the middle twice. Thus, there will be images where you will be duplicating information that another indexer might have already indexed. But, I guess two (or three or four) indexes are better than none.0
It is very helpful to get other people's ideas when I'm confronted with new records and formats that I haven't come across before.
I've also noticed on some other batches of these Middlesex burial records that I opened that some have a small piece of paper with the word "Duplicate" sitting beside the page. I don't have the batch numbers (!), but I'm wondering what these mean and if you've come across this before. I'll post when I come across one again, if you're not sure what I mean.
