Please edit incorrectly transcribed name on Church census
A source attached to my father is correct source, but his name was transcribed incorrectly. It is written correctly on the document which is a Church census record from 1950. We went to a family history center in order to view the image of the record, but do not have the ability to edit data that was transcribed wrong.
Here is a link to the record:
My father's name was DONALD Gene Johnson, Not "Harold Gene Johnson" - can family search correct this error? See Donald Gene Johnson #KWCD-VS9
The index is a finding aid. You found the record, and have successfully viewed it. Therefore, the index has served its purpose. Is there someone else who may need to find the record? You've attached the citation to the profile, wouldn't that next person be working from there?
(Yeah, yeah, I get it. The correction impulse is strong and all-encompassing. :-)1
Normally, you would have the ability to edit the record and make the correction.
But... the button is grayed out. My suggestion is to link the record anyway and check back periodically to see if it becomes editable. Genealogy is a long game.0
One necessary (but not sufficient) condition for editability is availability of the image online on FamilySearch. The LDS church doesn't generally make its censuses publicly available, so I suspect that if this index ever becomes user-editable, it will only be at FHCs and/or for LDS accounts.1
