What to do if Irish localities don't appear to match the Irish county being indexed?

I returned a batch because none of the listed residences matched any of the localities on the IreAtlas Townland Search form for County Down.

How should this be resolved or reported?

Thank you.

You can always include the batch number in your report here. Having others look at the batch - if you Share it - may help you figure out what is going on with the place names.

You can find the batch number at the end of the batch title in brackets found at the top of the indexing page -

    i.e. batch title [MXXX-XXX]

    OR

you can also find the batch code under Help> Share Batch

In my Ireland experience, if the place name is not listed in the provided IreAtlas list - I will just type what I see in the Place field (that's usually what the instructions indicate needs to be done). I find that many recorders spelled places/names differently/phonetically - so be prepared for things to not exactly match a current day place list...

Another great resource for Ireland place names is: https://www.logainm.ie/en/ --- this database may have places not listed in IreAtlas list or include variant names ...

    @BStone49

    You are welcome.

For reference I also find the instructions for Residence field to be not as helpful as they possibly could be:

    https://community.familysearch.org/en/discussion/117024/feedback-questions-improve-residence-field-help-ireland-cork-church-records-1740-1913

You can locate the record which should tell you the parish(es) the register(s) cover and from there maybe get a general idea of surrounding townlands. But even then that will not account for the variants in spelling from the year of the register(s). At some point some Ireland expert will review all the questionable/incorrectly indexed locations and correct them. I'll just keep trying to do my best in entering the Residence locations.

FYI: I tried indexing a County Down batch as well - and I can confirm the placenames take some 'getting used to'. For example:

B vicnakelly = Ballyvicknacally (in the IreAtlas or Logainm.ie databases)

    thanks for that feedback

My concern is that the batch being indexed is not actually in Down, perhaps it is really another county, as none of the locality names match those on the list, spelling variances aside.

I would hope that would be unlikely ... but who knows. If any of the locations match it could be from County Down. Looking up the record and determining if it originally was supposed to be from a County Down parish/townland or sharing the batch code is probably best.
