I have a small fleur de lis silver brooch( about the size of a $1 Australian coin.) which belonged to my great grandfather, a Scotsman. His surname was Meudell ( born 1831) and we have never found out whether the name was of German or French origin.

The fleur-de-lis is a french symbol, so I am almost sure that Meudell would be a french name.

    I hope this helps you,

    Rose
